After weeks of planning, a small group of students travelled to Ottawa by train. While in Ottawa, our primary mode of transportation was by foot although we used public bus transportation pretty extensively as well. We spent a few days seeing the sights in our nation`s capital. Highlights included a visit to Parliament, the Supreme Court, the Royal Canadian Mint, a Senators Hockey game, a Haunted evening tour, visiting the locks of the Rideau Canal, and a visit with our local MP Larry Miller. Day One: (Thursday October 22nd)
4:30am Students arrive at C.D.H.S
4:45am Depart C.D.H.S for Guelph Train station (Wathke Bus Lines)
7:08am Depart Guelph for Ottawa via Toronto Union station
(ViaRail – Depart Toronto for Ottawa at 9:30am)
2:20pm Arrive – Ottawa – public transportation to downtown
Hotel (OC Transpo – Bus #95 Nepean/S. Fallowfield)
3:00pm Check into hotel – Les Suites Ottawa (130 Besserer St.)
3:30pm Walking tour of Byward Market, free time for dinner
5:30pm Depart downtown for Scotiabank Place - Kanata (OC Transpo – Connexion 403 Bus from Laurier or Rideau Centre stop)
7:30pm Ottawa Senators vs. Nashville Predators Hockey Game
11:00pm Return to hotel using public transportation/bus
Day Two: (Friday October 23rd)
7:00am Wake up call - breakfast
8:30am Walk to Rideau Canal
9:00am Rental bike tour of Rockcliffe neighbourhood including International Embassies, Prime Minister’s Residence and Rideau Hall (More info on www.RentaBike.ca)
12:00pm Free time for lunch (1 hour)
1:00pm Tour of Parliament Hill/Parliament buildings
2:30pm Tour of Royal Canadian Mint (Walk to Supreme Court)
4:15pm Tour of Supreme Court
5:00pm Free time for dinner – Rideau Centre
7:00pm Walking tour – City Hall, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Parliament Hill area
7:45pm Haunted Walk of Ottawa – Sparks Street Mall
10:00pm Return to hotel
Day Three: (Saturday October 24th)
7:00am Wake up call – breakfast
8:30am Walk to University of Ottawa
9:00am University of Ottawa – campus tour
10:30am Return to hotel, check out
11:00am Public transit (bus) to Train Station
12:20pm Train to Guelph via Toronto
7:00pm Arrive in Guelph
7:15pm Board school bus to return to Chesley
9:00pm Arrive at Chesley District High School
